Your First Visit
New Patient Information
Do I need a referral?
Some patients are referred by their GP or specialist. However, a referral is not required for your first appointment.
What will happen on my first visit?
Once you have made your phone or online booking, you will receive a confirmation email with further instructions including where to park and what to wear.
Your appointment begins with you telling us about your medical and health history. Some health problems can be very similar to disorders of the spine. This is why we will discuss your history in some detail. This will be followed by a comprehensive examination to make the most accurate diagnosis.
Depending on the complexity of your condition, your initial consultation will usually take between 40 minutes to 1 hour.
In most cases, it is safe and appropriate to begin treatment on your first visit.
Please understand, if we think we cannot help you, or if our examination uncovers any concerns, we will refer you appropriately and communicate with your GP on your behalf.
Will I need X-rays, MRI's or other tests?
It is not necessary for you to undergo any X-rays or other tests before visiting our practice.
Diagnostic imaging such as X-rays will only be acquired if clinically relevant.
However, if you do have any previous X-rays, CT or MRI scans, please bring them along to your first appointment.
Can I claim on my private health insurance?
Yes, we accept all major private health funds. Chiropractic services are usually classified under health fund “Extras”.
We offer on the spot electronic health fund rebates that will allow you to pay for your consultation and claim your rebate immediately.
However, annual limits do apply, and the amount that you are reimbursed will vary depending on your level of cover. Please check with your health fund provider to find out the exact details of your policy.
Can I claim on Medicare?
Yes, if you are referred by your GP under the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan, then you are able to claim a substantial portion of your fees from Medicare (up to a maximum of 5 visits per year). You will need to speak to your GP to check if you qualify for an EPC Plan.
We have Medicare Easyclaim facilities that allow you to pay for your consultation and claim your rebate immediately. Your funds will then be deposited into your chosen bank account. Please note, this must be set up before your appointment.
Will I be treated on my first visit?
If you are in pain then understandably you will want to start treatment right away. We will do everything we can to help you as quickly as possible.
Sometimes the situation calls for an X-ray or an MRI scan, or blood tests first – but we will explain all of this to you and will only order these tests if they are necessary.
In most cases, it is safe and appropriate to begin treatment immediately.
