Gonstead Examination
The physical exam is a thorough analysis of your spine using five criteria to detect the presence of any abnormal or dysfunctional joint movements:
- Visualisation —A Gonstead Chiropractor will begin visualising the subtle changes in your posture and movement.
- Instrumentation — The Nervoscope detects uneven heat along the spine which can be suggestive of inflammation and nerve pressure. This instrument is guided down the length of your back and feels like two fingers gliding down each side of your spine.
- Static Palpation — A Gonstead chiropractor will look and touch for the presence of swelling, tenderness, unusual texture or tightness in the muscles and other tissues of your spine and back.
- Motion Palpation — This process involves feeling the spine while moving and bending it at various angles. From this, a Gonstead chiropractor to able to determine how easy or difficult each segment in your spine moves in different directions.
- X-Ray Analysis — X-rays enable a Gonstead Chiropractor to confirm the above findings and visualise your spine. They are helpful in evaluating posture, joint and disc integrity as well as, possible vertebra misalignments. X-rays can also help eliminate the presence of any pathologies, or recent fractures that may be present or contributing to your condition.
